States Urge EPA: Start Testing Tap Water for Microplastics

Attorneys general from North Carolina and 11 other states, plus the District of Columbia, asked EPA to add microplastics to the next nationwide drinking-water monitoring rule (UCMR 6). EPA left them off, saying no validated testing method is ready. The AGs argue that gap is why federal action matters — define microplastics, develop methods, and start collecting data, even if only at a smaller set of systems first.
